People-Powered Politics
People-powered politics puts local voices at the heart of decisions. It’s not just about being heard – it’s about communities having clear, practical routes to influence what happens next.
It makes public involvement the default – not an afterthought.
What this looks like in practice
Locally led priorities
Priorities come from residents, not pre-set plans. If flooding, safe crossing points or housing are your biggest concerns, those are the priorities I focus on first with you.
Involvement from the start
Rather than being asked after decisions are made, residents help shape solutions from the beginning. Parish councils, community groups, neighbourhood groups and local volunteers are partners in problem-solving.
Community-driven action
When people organise around shared concerns – road safety, housing, community facilities – my role is to support, connect and unblock so that effort turns into outcomes.
Direct accountability to residents
As an independent, I’m directly accountable to you – with regular updates, open contact and the flexibility to adapt when priorities shift.
What this means for Oakley & The Candovers
Local groups lead
You set the agenda. My job is to connect with the right people at the council, bring them round the table, find resources and keep work moving – working in partnership throughout.
Partnerships that deliver
Working alongside councillors of all political backgrounds, officers at different levels, and community groups where it helps achieve progress.
This approach ensures the community priorities that matter most locally stay at the centre of my work.
